See all episodes of The Voice on its own Pressible site here.

As part of the After Ed TV project in the fall of 2008, EdLab partnered with the Teachers College Record (TCR) to develop and produce The Voice, a weekly video series that communicates traditional scholarly research in a new way. The editors at TCR were interested in exploring how a feature-length article (often exceeding 40 pages in length) could be translated into a two to three minute episode. Working collaboratively, we developed a form that is part research trailer and part article summary.

The Voice format has succeeded in doing two things. First, episodes are finding an audience, and are being used in classroom instruction as introductions to an author and her or his work. Second, papers that are associated with a video receive increased views. We take this success as a sign that the TCR audience is excited to explore the potential of video as a means to communicating educational research.

TCR looks forward to exploring this potential in the coming years, and is excited to work with a team of producers at the Gottesman Libraries who will publish future episodes of The Voice.

From The Media Show (on YouTube):

Who gets to spend any time with the media at school? Teens Weena and Erna play hooky every week in an abandoned storage closet in an advertising agency in New York City. The Media Show is full of ideas for teaching and learning media literacy concepts. See these episodes on YouTube to participate with your own ideas, comments, and videos.

The Media Show is a show about media (and Internet) literacy. It was developed as part of After Ed TV’s mission of creating new kinds of educational discussion. In February 2009, it became a weekly video series.

After the first 10 episodes, publication of The Media Show moved to YouTube. YouTube served as a better platform than After Ed TV (which at that time was hosted on a custom installation of Drupal), since one of the publishing goals was to elicit user-response videos from the audience – and YouTube had recently incorporated tools for making these kinds of direct connection between videos possible.

A year and a half and 69 episodes later, production on The Media Show came to an end when Gus Andrews, the creator of the show, graduated from Teachers College.

The episode My Hotness is Pastede on Yey! (above) won the Fair Use Award at the 2010 Media that Matters Festival (see the posting here). In this episode, the Media Show looks at the use of Photoshop in advertising, and the history of image manipulation.

After Ed News was a weekly education news program on After Ed TV, running continuously from July 2007 to February 2009. Reporting on education-related issues ranged from local New York City news (where Teachers College is based) to larger issues affecting U.S. education, global education (such as policy in Bhutan), and controversial policy developments such as the evolving effect of No Child Left Behind.

After some experimentation with formats and talent, After Ed News was regularly hosted by Josh Anderson and Laura Scheiber. The news was delivered via a traditional news-desk, interspersed with special reporting from the field (including event coverage and man-on-the-street interviews).
